Chicana Warrior

I had a close friend tell me once

That when they look at other flowers they think,

"Why don't I have as many petals as the other flower?

Why does that flower have to be purple but I'm red,

why am I not blooming as fast as the other flowers?"

it's doing it's own thing. Blossoming in its own beautiful way…

Look at me.

You see this hair,

long strong thick powerful full of wisdom just like my ancestors,
You see this body

I take pride in my body AND my stretch marks I'm a damn tiger baby..

Don't you see how beautiful I am in my own way?

Now look at her, short crazy hair

She said hell no to society's standards and gender norms women could rock short hair too.

You see her beautiful brown skin?

Showing that her very own existence is resistance against centuries of colonization rape tourture and genicide of our people we are still here

That embracing and living in that skin makes her a warrior.

Don't you see how beautiful she is is her own way?

My women we are indoctrinated starting at such young ages

To fit certain beauty standards

We are brainwashed to compete and put each other and our selves down

We are conditioned to think that if we ain't thin that we ain't pretty

But not too thin because " bones are for dogs"

If we ain't thick in the right places

You could have a fat booty boobs and thighs but god forbid that you have a Pansa

Or fat in any other body part... oh wait and you have cellulite and stretch marks?

Nah now you just "ain't healthy" and you don't wear make up?

Man you really must not take care of yourself,

But don't wear too much makeup because I like my women natural

But not too natural because woman aren’t supposed to be like that..

ENOUGH

Enough.

The reality is we are all created differently

Built differently

Go though different struggles

Some of us have dark skin

Some of us have lighter skin and no light is not better than dark

Some of us are more skinny, fat, chunky, thin thick somewhere in between

Some of us are single young mothers, some of us struggled to make a dime.

Some of us are undocumented and UNafraid

Some of us have been abused emotionally and physically

No that does not make us less worthy

Some of us are in wheelchairs or have a physical disability

No that does not make us less worthy

Some of us are into boys

Some of us are both into boys and girls or whatever gender

We don't care about what's in between your legs we care about what's in here.

Some of us have little boobs big boobs one boob or somewhere in between or none because we are also survivors and warriors

Some of us have Long hair short hair curly or straight hair or crazy colored hair No hair or somewhere in between because we are also survivors and warriors,

Why can't I look like her?

Why can't my eyes be like her?

Why can't my life be like hers?

First of all.

Ima need you to take a step back real quick and decolonize that mind of yours,

Second of all. You are not like her because you are like you,

You a warrior like you

Your a CHINGONA like you

You are beautiful like you.
