Chicanx
I am the shadow who never had a culture.
I am the girl who was too "other" to be considered white,
yet around Mexicans was always called White Girl.
I am the Chicana who spoke better Spanish than her Mexican peers
but never seemed to be "Mexican enough."
I am the girl who grew up in a Mexican community and had always considered herself white,
until I went to college,
the first in my family to go to college,
but once there, was considered a minority and constantly asked
"what are you?"
I am the one who struggled to find an identity.
A few years later, with all the struggling, I found an identity.
The geeky gamer who owns several consoles and can be found playing them when not working.
The feminist who stand up for social issues such as sexism, racism, and even twincism.
The Chicanx who loves her culture more than anything and claims it,
no longer ashamed, to both sides who never accepted her.
And the twin,
where my sister will always be part of my identity
even in the future if we go our separate ways and live in different parts of the country.
