the child

the child is off to school,

with a kiss goodbye,

sharpened pencils, papers, and crayons,

the child off to school,

sent there for a good education,

not knowing what you're going to lose,

getting a call later on,

there's been shooting at the Elementary school,

shots fired out,

police right outside not knowing what to do,

the kids crying out,

saying goodbye to each other,

Parents rushing to the school,

asking where their child is,

needing to hug their little one,

needing to know if their child is okay,

lookinig everyone,

the crowd is gathering,

parents screaming,

children crying,

people bleeding,

people dying,

officers lying,

lawmakers hiding,

If we can't protect the children then who are we?

If we can't make the streets safe then what kind of society is this?

how much more pain do the children have to take?

When will the lawmaker's eyes suddenly be open? Why do they act like their not awake?
