The Child

There is a little, broken child In all of us. Pushed around, Yelled at, Lied to, Led astray far too many times The child hid in a secret corner Hoping no one would find them Hoping no one would hurt them This poor urchin Was abandoned by friends Was called names And was told they would always be alone. How can anyone expect that child to grow up In a scary, angry world? How can anyone expect that child to treat others With love, respect, and honesty? How could anyone hope to connect with this child? We are all met by challenges and adversaries, But if we are lucky We will be taught, We will learn how To center ourselves To move on To find acceptance Life can be painful, but it can be beautiful It all depends how we view Ourselves, our life circumstances! The poor, lonely child Doesn't have to be alone Doesn't have to have a wall to keep the bad people out Doesn't have to hide in a closet Doesn't have to expect horrible things This child can be happy, loved, and cherished All the child has to do Is find a way out of the rabbit hole And follow the yellow brick road.
