As a Child

As a child, I would run through the forest

The leaves above and below me

And nobody to tell me where to go

I tried to make a boat to float on the creek

I made it out of wood and childish optimism

It sank to the bottom, but my imagination did not

As a child, night time was a mystery

The world wasn't the same as it was in daytime

It had changed and shot my imagination into a frenzy

We'd ride out into the marshes

There we would be dazzled by fireflies

Like real life fairies, they filled me with awe and inspiration

As a child, my mind was free

I didn't worry about what others thought

I loved and lived freely, shamelessly

I want to live like I did as a child

To let my imagination free

To be open to beauty
