The Child Forgotten

Born in the spring As the result of a fling Parenthood, no time to prepare The baby is here Moments of joy and sorrow the same With the new baby and a new name The joy, a temporary emotion With sorrow driving our locomotion, Our locomotion of loneliness Papa’s maybe but always mama’s baby The baby to care for with maybe a papa Maybe your presence Maybe your support And a definite maybe, financial backing Mama took her baby And learned to forget the maybe’s Lack of support Lack of presence And lack of financial backing Making HER baby Into a lady The struggles were many And the pain intense This baby turned lady felt forgotten As if papa had no love Made attempts to gain that love But met with empty promises And simply lies The baby turned lady Involved, compassionate, caring Full of life Turned athlete and honor student Papa maybe have forgotten the child The child forgotten Is forgotten no more.

This poem is about my life as a product of a single mother that stuggled to make the ends meet and a fahter that wanted to simply have the title but do nothing to fulfill that title of "father."
