I sit admiring and smiling

At the little one in my lap.

My precious boy,

My baby,

My son.

Cocooning my beloved babe in my lap

I realize I will do anything,

Be anything, for him.

I would sacrifice myself

To keep him happy.

But for now I will hold him,

Cuddle and love him

Supporting his head on my legs,

For I know my prince of peace will

Not remain small forever.

He will grow and mature,

Forging his own destiny

Along the way.

Swaddling my first born,

This Christ child,

Shielding him, I stare,

Pondering what he will be like.

Will he be strong?

Will he be honest?

Will he always be mine?

I wonder if he knows—

When he will know—

He is the Son of God.

I wonder if he senses it,

Sees it,

In those big eyes of his.

My precious boy,

My baby,

My son,

My savior.
