A Child Waiting

You hear the stories everyday
Of children being abused or taken away’
You see their faces on the news
You feel sorry, but not amused
You see, these stories they can pull at your heartstrings
But they never break them apart it only stings
Because you've never experienced that
Never been the parent or a friend that hears the fact
Someone's gone never to return
Whether it's emotional or physical, they've left
But what about those who experience it right hand
The ones who are gone
Never to land

When you’re a child waiting
Sitting looking around
You watch the people pacing
Though you’re the one stuck in the ground
When you're a child waiting
Your eyes are always dark
When you’re a child waiting
You never forget that mark

You even see those grown children sitting on the streets
Those who can't afford a little peace
You feel sorry for that split second
But you never do anything
You just walk away, place that person in a place
Far in the back of your mind
Because you don't have time
To help that person or lend a hand
Or even spark a conversation
To just be a friend

Those children, those poor  children
You may know one
You may not
But they are everywhere
The person sitting next to you, your friend, your next door neighbor
Anyone, everyone

Even I'm a child waiting
Though the secret is kept still
I hide my marks, I hide the hate
But it's only so much time till....
