Child into a Women
You ask when did I first notice I wasn't a child anymore.
It was when my fairytale became a reality,
it was whenever he held my hands walking through the halls,
the butterflies would be with me all day until I came home.
It was whenever he asked my parents to take me out on my birthday,
it was when he took me to his favorite park.
Months flew by like years but distance did us no good.
It was when hearbreak become the end of the world,
it was when I would lay in bed in my own river.
You ask when did I first notice I wasn't a child anymore.
It was whenever I began to lie to my parents about the boy after him,
saying he was a saint and treated me well, when in reailty he kept me hidden from the world.
Two heartbreaks within months time ...
You asked when I noticed I wasn't a child anymore.
It was whenever he took me out to eat as friends and nothing more.
A simple conversation about traveling and I knew something felt different.
It was when he took me by the shore at night time just to feel the breeze.
It was when he considered me family at our first thanksgiving together.
That's when I noticed.
I noticed I wasn't a child whenever I found a man.
A man who would be proud to have me as his own and let me be myself without fear or control.
It was when "I Love You" became more than just a saying but true meaning.
It was whenever he promised me an entire life with him just by looking into my eyes.
Two years later and our love is what makes me notice I am no longer a child in heartbreak
but a women with dignity.
He made me notice I wasn't a child anymore.
