Childhood to Adulthood

When I was little, I was clueless

Not having any idea how to do this

But as I grew older, there was a change

My personality reached a whole new range

I had begun to see things in a different light

No longer being afraid of darkness at night

Realizing my delicate, newborn mentality

Was just awakening my harsh reality

Everything I witnessed growing up

Lead me to not be as fragile as a teacup

I broke out of my shy shell and proved people wrong

Showed them all that I was wise and strong

Growing up with one parent was very hard

However, my mother was always my lifeguard

Shielding me from the terribly cruel place

That we all call the earth’s face.

High school taught me more than just subjects

It showed me that life is full of special effects

Many people pretending to be my friend

Just because they wanted something in the end

Now I am off to college preparing to do great

But I have to carry this troubling heavy weight

Knowing that I will be the first to go this far

Is something I still find real bizarre
