Childhood Essence

Two year olds – no – four year olds No, seven year olds Do not see Anything different Anything wrong Anything out of the ordinary They see A new opportunity A new stranger to befriend A new treasure to uncover So why all this hate Why all this blamin’ Why all this negativity When the battle already been fought When the war already been won When the King already spoken When the Bible already been sworn on When the second term already come around Tell me Why all this delaying Why all this slaying When returning to that wonder And returning to that awe And returning to that acceptance Perfectly captured within that essence of a child Is as easy As just steppin’ out the way So let the walls fall down And the skins dissolve Let a nation this great A nation this diverse Stand together as One No, truly as one Rather, let’s sit as One So that not one Rose has to stand And that no Dream has to be interrupted Let’s blend into one another Until no ma’am has been forgotten And no sir has been dis-titled So that no child has to go to school alone And so that no Ruby is left undiscovered
