Childhood Given Up

Running through the alleys of my city,

I had no idea of what was to come.

Soon I would stop being a child,

and move far away from home.

I knew it was time to grow up,

to step up and take care of my sister.

My parents were dealing with so much,

and in my mind, I was their only hope.

A few years have passed by,

and I don’t regret a single thing.

I’m proud of what I did and who I helped,

even though I lost a piece of myself.
