Childhood Innocence
I remember when my world was new.
Sweet and whole and good.
Then I grew
But not much older
My eyes forced open
Made to see pain and indignity
My ears made to hear
The world’s slurs and suffering
Now that I am no longer made to hide
Try and pretend the world is fine
I don’t know what to do
Made to look adult
Still I feel a child.
But I stand and march and fight
For what I know is wrong
For what I know is right
The world is scary that I learned,
When my biggest concern should have been my toys.
Thouse I have put aside
I have taken up my banner
I lost my innocences
But not my will to fight.
