Children of America

In ghettos, in suburbs, and cities alike They’re born and bred amidst the nights They are The children of America Lights shining brightly left only to dim Why have we abandoned them? Violence. Abuse. Discrimination. They cope. The children of America Some think it taboo to speak of such things Not me when they’re still wondering Why me? My situation grim The children of America Daily they suffer in drums and heaps Searching for love, acceptance to keep Into the depths where they hide and fade The children of America Some do alright and fair just fine Still many others are left behind Blurs among faces within the masses The children of America They’re black and white, yellow and small Round and thin, brown and tall Looking for others to catch their fall The children of America Enough with this complaining and such Be bold and proud to help them much Hold their heads high. Walk in strength. Develop a sense of confidence. The children of America The time for action, for change is now Take your places and take your bow Helping them grow for the future calls The children of America
