Chivalry

Sits an old man playing chess

with himself at a public picnic table

Knight to F3

Laughs and stands up

Turns the table’s corner

Sits down in a new chair

“Oh, damn you”

Says he to air

Moves his pawn

Stands and tugs at sword in stone

Chair moves slightly

and seats him

Laughs at the man no longer

sitting on the other side

Knight stops him in his steps

with palm of his hand

Sticks his leg out

Tells him to walk

The old man obeys

knowing he will certainly fall

Does so

King drops in his square

Checkmate

says Knight

Old man aches

What has happened to chivalry?
