Chocolate Covered Cherries

You told me when we first married
                    Don’t give you flowers
If I desired your knowing smile
                    I should bring you candy

I asked which kind you wanted
                    Caramels or peppermint
You said the only sweet you crave
                    Is chocolate covered cherries

Now I’m not a jealous guy
But the way you looked at that box
                    Of creamy dark confections
I knew I stood on caving ground

I thought you would love me more and more
For giving you on every occasion your favorite candy
But today you weigh some two hundred pounds
Alas that woman you see in the mirror is all my fault
