The Choice on 86th Street

I stand on the double yellow line

Of 86th Street.

Italian leather on one end

And White Nike Classics on the other.

North or South, White or Black.

Which do I choose?

Who do I want to be?

My genetics say one but

My attitude says another.

Being comfortable around Whites

Is betrayal.

Being comfortable around Blacks

Is cultural shock.

I am alienated within my own body.

So who am I? What am I?
