A Choice of Damnations

Which is worse;

   Becoming vulnerable in hopes of romance,

   Offering your bleeding heart,

   Hoping for happiness, but waiting for betrayal?

or    distancing from all emotion

   killing life inside to avoid all pain

   if love ends in sorrow

   do not love at all

A choice of damnations -

   Between waiting for others to break you

   and breaking yourself

Which is worse;

   Watching life through moving windows,

   Always hurrying from place to place,

   Never noticing the surrounding paradise?

or    spending day upon day in one spot

   growing roots whittle away your life

   never seeing sights; never feeling experiences

   leaving other paradises unexplored

A choice of damnations -

   Between rushing your life away

   and wasting it away

Which is worse;

   The sleep that never comes,

   The mind reeling with worries,

   No rest, no mercy, just constant fear?

or    the sleep that never ends

   the simple thought of breathing out

   and never breathing back in

   so relaxing, so tranquil, just merciful oblivion

A choice of damnations -

   Between death with eyes open

   and death with eyes closed

Which is worse;

   A glass half-full,

   Hoping for greatness,

Relying on optimism?

or    a glass half-empty

   accepting the depressing fate

that mocks us all

    openly accepting depression,

A choice of damnations -

   Between hoping for the best

   and accepting the worst

Which is worse;

   The blissful taste of ignorance,

   Building up a wall,

That comes crashing down with a single word?

or    the powerful taste of knowledge

   killing all doubts

   but all at a cost

A choice of damnations -

   Between trusting others

   and betraying yourself

Which is worse;

   Wounds that never heal,

   Flesh to be exposed,

   Every glance, a grain of salt?

or    scars that fade away

   disappearing, forgotten forever

   ignored to all but who carries them

   refusing help, deteriorating inside

A choice of damnations -

   Between a plea for help

   and a demand for solitude

Which is worse;

   Making a decision,

   Calculating the risks, hoping for the best,

   Trusting yourself completely?

or    sitting idly by

   waiting for someone to take control of your life

   but without risk there can be no reward

   you must be willing to sacrifice to achieve

A choice of damnations

   but you MUST choose
