Choose To Be a Friend

The remembrance of yesterday

The hope of tomorrow;

As the dawn of today rises

I have feelings of happiness and sorrow.

This life I live is so uncertain

Each moment, each breath a gift;

It is my choice, with every action I take

Whether I tear down or choose to uplift.

Slow down, look around

Share a smile, a kind word, a listening ear;

The blossoming of a new friendship

Begins with taking the time to hear.

Remove my selfishness to be able to see another's pain

Replace my busyness with opportunities to meet another's need;

Renounce hatred and bullying and cruelty and stand for the good in people, in community and in love.

Remember people need people - plant the seed. 

As I spend time with you, care for and encourage you

Help carry your load;

I cannot help but find the beauty and grace we all need to give and receive

To create healthy environments as we travel life's road.

Today is the day to make a difference

To choose the morals and foundations I will defend;

Look in the mirror - who will I be

Today is the day for me to be a friend.
