Christ Alone

As I sit here in the mire, with my desires bursting at the seams,

So easily I forget that it was my sin that cost you your dreams.

Or maybe it was this that helped achieve what the world needs

Which was a God wrapped in flesh, crucified, then freed

From life, death, sin, and stress,

Emptiness, bitterness, from this mess

To love, truth, beauty and light,

Stealing me away from my night,

The shame and pain that I, a misfit, caused.

Even when, and I after, I fall

There He is to heal and cleanse

There He is, in some glorious sense

And here I am, perfectly atoned

Knowing that it was God’s love and Christ alone.
