A Christmas Dream
One Christmas morning young Maria awoke;
The night before she had a dream that Santa spoke.
She asked Santa, “All I want for Christmas is a Tree with lights”;
The next day, all she got was family fights.
On Christmas Day, while all the other children were opening presents, Maria was sad;
She wondered all day if she did something bad.
Maria looked out the window and there were children playing with their sleigh;
She wondered if her pain would go away.
“Was she a stray?”
Christmas was such a sad day.
Instead of seeing red, green, and shiny lights, all Maria saw was black and gray.
She asked her mother, “Is everything okay?”
That Christmas, Maria realized that this was not okay;
A child should not be unhappy on such a wonderful day.
When Maria turned 16, she got a job and worked hard;
She now had a little brother and sister she had to guard.
Her brother and sister were her ray of light;
She was going to make sure they were bright and polite.
Christmas was here!
There was no reason to want to disappear.
The living room was filled with uncontrollable cheer.
Maria started to tear;
She told her brother and sister, “Let this Christmas be a souvenir.”
Finally, her dream was here.
