Christmas Past

The splatter of the grease on the stove

The smell of the french toast mixed with the pine from the tree

Long blue and yellow apron hanging lightly

From your neck like a feather

The table filled with the breakfast being prepared

For ages, we couldn’t forget the events upon us

The stove and fridge filled with smells

Of sugary sweets baked the night before

The smell of the spices used

The smell when you open the fridge and see

Mouth watering honey glazed ham

The cream cheese wrapped in ham with onions

The most prominent smell is the big pine

Sitting in the living room decorated with bright twinkle lights,

The ornaments made for Christmas’ past,

And silver tinsel making the tree shimmer

Like the sun hitting the snow just right.

The conversations of Joy and the Gifts

Sitting around the Christmas tree waiting

For family to slowly arrive with the bags and boxes

Treats, toys and tokens of love filling the house

On this special christmas day,

Not knowing it was going to be the last

With our family completed

Laughing loudly like Hyenas in the night

We commemorate the day with fun

In the snow we make angels, and oddly shaped men

The angels I make today will be for you

Hoping that you are making yours for me too
