Christmas Tree
A Christmas tree pokes out the window of your house
I thought I’d see the lights bright up but instead I saw your spouse
I smile and wave as he see’s me pass the shadow of your house
My steps freeze up the moment that I see you passing with no doubt
You don’t look back and step the porch passing through the door
And shut it hard reminding me of how you closed the door
With no goodbye you shut my heart and it hurt’s me to the core
Your hair’s a blur as tears fall through, soaked into my red scarf
The scene is clear now in my head, it’s time I bid fare-well
I look back at my trail of steps, which all seemed like a prayer
I pull my coat for warmness despite it always being cold
A coat can’t warm the coldness, that my heart will always bear
I hear a child cry, amid my own thoughts, it rings out
And look up to the window where you’re holding him, my boy
Christoff babbles as he looks up and he holds me in a gaze
He smiles brightly laughing, as his mother finds his gaze
She turns around to find nothing, just trails deep in the snow
And off I walk the path to what my future may behold.
