The Circle Of Life
Freshman year was scary, the new one on campus
My horses take a backseat while I am underestimated in tennis
Sophomore year was better, no longer the runt of the school
Still nervous around the seniors, have to fit in order to be cool
Junior year was the stressor, between the grades and the ACT
4.0 so close, will colleges settle for a 3.363?
Junior Prom is the highlight of the year, finally the beautiful gown
Date or no date, this girl is having a night on the town
Summer is a blur between work, applications, and deadlines
Fall approaches as does my varsity tennis season timeline
Senior year has arrived, how much we all have changed
My acceptance to college is secured, now I just have find a way to pay
Graduation is approaching, my parents hate to let me go
My life is about to start and where it takes me only God knows
I was raised with expectations and early on learned respect
I can’t say every decision made was right, but learned as I went
I am confident in my ability to achieve and plan for success
In and out of the classroom, I expect nothing less
I know I will fall a time or two and maybe struggle getting to my feet
This is the importance of family and friends to ensure I rise above defeat
A solid education is the best way I can maximize my effort
Veterinarians expect skills when working on a heifer
I want to love my job and make a difference in my patients health
Encouraging youth to dream big and continue reflecting on ourselves
Here is trying to make my way through the jungle of life in one piece
Thank you poetry scholarship judges for helping me achieve my dreams
