The City

The streets are crowded and busy

There are people all around.

I feel like a lost child

amongst a city of robots.

I watch the cheetah

as it whizzes by me

as if it is alive.

I see it suddenly slow

becoming a hungry beast

gobbling up the unsuspecting passengers.

So much hustle and bustle

I wonder how things get accomplished.

There is so much to see

There is so much to take in.

I swallow hard as I prepare

to start my day's journey.

I am face to face with the beast

I let it consume me like so many others.

My lungs burn

reminding me to take a breath.

This is no starving beast,

but merely a machine.

I relax and close my eyes

while I am transported like a snake

around my nation's capital.
