City Ants

Trees in concrete

business plazas

are home to city ants.

Feet over stones,

and leftover lunch;

performing a new dance.

Brave, city ants—

they fight to survive

construction noise and suits.

City ants have

hope, wide eyes and heart,

and big jackets and boots.

The city ant dreams.

Oh, he's seen so much

beyond the field and tree.

Marching onward,

from country to sky,

the city ant is free.
