City Night Perfection


True night.  Definition (and perfection?)

         comes in negative.

Night has no light

         lacks sound.

 

City maps space my

home.  Drunken subway lines

drawing silence and               noise.

 

24h Northern days

Night unchallenged

         on principle

          definition

 

Night is to temporal distinction

         as

To slumber is to hear

 

I left the city of never-

—sleep.  But elsewhere I couldn’t

—               My Noise machines

raced towards ERs, but not in suburbs

         like this

 

         Not lack of light

flashing red noises 2am

Night in clear perfection

Country night’s flaw is the

—               ‘shhh

 

I observe beauty. Appreciation is

         uncanny to invisible noises

glossed over.  Understand starless night and

light pollution lullaby ambulances, I feel

unmistakable but          roughly ignored

—                        noise
