City Soul

I am Manhattan, all city lights and urban sprawl.

I am rushing cars,

cold, crisp air,

humming conversations of workers on morning commutes.

I am the comfort of a warm cigarette and coffee breath and

shuffling feet on cracked pavement.

I am a glint of gold between two parted, chapped lips,

I am love at first sight.

I am the torrid night and the morning pill,

the serpent and the suitor,

the death and its salesman.

I am hot blood dripping on your hands.

I am a moment within a dream, a dream within a moment,

a handshake and a promise.

I am perhaps yours.
