Clandestine
Hidden beneath the sheets
Dead memories swirling about the room
Slugging through my veins
The thick viscous ink writing letters in my skin
Sunlight streaking through
The small apartment window
And the steps fill the halls
As people start their day
But...
The light remains off in the room
And in heart and in head
And in soul.
War cries are left scattered in my mind
Like the autumn leaves against the cool ground
Left to be burnt away in piles
And they’ll burn
Burn and burn
Wilting away, unfurling their pain in the heat
The tear stricken faces at home
Staring at the picture
That can never look back
Lights off, hidden beneath the sheets
Eyes closed
But never to stop seeing
And never to forget.
