Class of 2013

We are excited, We are nervous, We are glad to be leaving this place. Another life waits ahead, But for now it’s this moment that counts. “Anne Hutch, Kathy Obeng,” One by one our names are being called. We each rise from our seats, And strut humbly down the uncluttered aisle To receive our reward of a four year’s hardwork. Our family and friends on both sides of the bench, Rise to applaud out of pride and joy after supporting us all these years, They rise to greet us with red roses and orchids. They rise to scream out “That’s my daughter!” And also “That’s my son!” When each person has taken their turn down the glorious aisle, When each person has received the shiny red diploma, When each person has been embraced, When the valedictorian and graduation committee have given their speeches, We all rise in one accord and glimpse back to our first years here; The struggles we had when making new friends, The difficulty we endured when finding ourselves, The many papers we had to write for our English classes, The many times we had to be corrected, The numerous announcements we were raided with to be at school on time, The teachers we met along the way Who revealed to us the road to success, The counselors we had Who helped us with our problems and recommendation letters, Were all a part of this wondrous journey. Many say that the destination matter. This is true. Yet there is also another important substance- The journey. For all the teachers, All the counselors, The whole administration, Even the principal, Saw something in us and polished us till we shined – Never taking “I can’t do it” for an answer. We stand here today in unity with tears of gratitude in our eyes. We are proud, We are accomplished, We are the future, We are the leaders We are, The Class of 2013
