The Clipped Wing
The world flows and ebbs in perfectly flowing lines
Nothing too tight , nothing to right
The box has been built
The colors have been drawn
Step wrong and you can be withdrawn
Brought back
Lines reset
The trap set
The bird caught
The wings clipped
Strapped in
The heart
The heart
It beats with in
Pound for pound
Breath by breath
The pretty bird
Rises from the confines
With purple ash blowing off its chest
The pretty bird spills only one tear
Realizing,
How close
How airless
The prism of society is
As it strapped it down
Made it unable to squeal with happiness
As it feels the breeze,
The breath
The breath that only freedom can provide a bird
That is you and me
that has only one need
Only one need
And that need is to be free.
