Clocking In

He leaves the house, his security fades

A life left in the dust. “Goodbye” he cried

Years slipped past as he aims to have it made

Consumed by thoughts of success and pride

A slave to greed and swallowed in the midst,

The hearts of loved ones crushed beneath his goals

He climbs and climbs to the top of his list

Until mending has fixed all gaping holes

The day creeps where he approaches his death

He collapses into a lonely sea

Distraught by silent sounds of hollow breaths

Trapped in a cage with hopes to flee

“Tick” was the knock of Hell o’er his door

The gift of living overwhelmed with more

It represents how a good majority of our society takes life for granted, only wishing to fulfill one's self with possessions while missing out on the beauty of ordinary circumstances.
