Close to Him

I am weary and burdened

I need my rest

Before I begin

My major test

I feel so weak

I’m a house of cards

The slightest push

Will make me fall

But to be honest

Upon my inspection

I fear I’m falling

In the wrong direction

Trying to make my life

A Cinderella story

I attempt to fill it

With love, fame, and glory

But the problem with a story

It’s a movie, it’s not real

I’m trying to write the plot

How I look, how I feel

The clock is close to midnight

This chapter has been written

But when the story’s over

On whose shelf will it be sittin’

Will it be on a shelf

In a house up in the sky

Or when I watch my film

Will I only want to cry

I don’t believe in magic

But there’s something up my sleeve

I have a plan, I’ve stacked the deck

For the goal I must achieve

I know His plan is in my sight

I pursue it with my might

I’ve read my playbook called the Bible

Deep into the night

I’m on the green

It’s time to put

In the redzone

Down, set, hut

But who am I to think

That I could really score

I’m nothing without God

And of that fact I’m sure

He gave me the strength to fight

And gave me the spirit

If you can disprove what I say

Then I would like to hear it

Because there is a book of truth

And I know the author

He wrote the story of my life

And I call him Father

He also is an artist

A Jack of all the trades

He painted the heavens in the skies

Created earth in seven days

And with His Son and Spirit

Sitting by His side

He looked at earth, created love

A love outside of time

Now all these truths are written

In the story of my life

They should be the cover

Not found between the lines

I edge the pages of my story

With a golden lining

But when you open up my book

Do you see light shining

There’s a light that should shine

This little light of mine

But I block my fire with desires

Way too many times

I live in a world

That preaches love of sin

I run from truth and into dark

I just can’t seem to win

This desire for the world

Is in my chemistry

Its how my cells and organelles

Have trained for me to be

There’s a worldly mold

I’ve been told to follow suit

But if I fall into this trap

Then I will bear no fruit

I’m on the road, I hear the call

To change from Saul to Paul

And if I follow what He says

Then I will never fall

I will not be tempted

More than I can stand

I’ve found my rest I’ve found my strength

In your mighty hand
