Closer

They warned me this would happen.

I should have stayed away.

But not knowing what love felt like,

it only drew me closer.

Days and days passed and the feeling grew stronger;

The feeling of never letting go;

The feeling of having people around me who actually cared.

They warned me again saying I'd get hurt - that I needed to stay away.

But I ignored them and got even closer,

making the best of everyday; trying to make it last longer.

I dared to cross the border,

not knowing what lay ahead.

I took my chances farther than before.

We were best friends for life

Until the day you went away.

I had no warning; I wasn't informed.

As the tears fell, I wondered why.

Why'd you leave me all alone.

The feeling is slowly fading to a throb; a longing.

The feeling: my medication; my antidote: the one thing I needed.

I can feel the pain pulsating throughout my body.

I hear it when I speak,

And yet I still remember:

They tried to warn me,

but I was oblivious.

As time passes, I don't know if I'll ever get closer again.
