the Closet (I Guess???)

Shoving things in your closet to bury the cracked feelings you had to get rid of. I was never one for sharing and these feelings were mine. So much buried and hidden its like a tomb. After all the digging instead of gems and gold they are only skeletons. Fossilised and ostricised and brutilised but others deny when I confide that's why I hide the skeletons beneath the chests under the shelf that hangs the shirts that hide the box with all my secrets. But when I show you I open the box and don't even care enough to pull the string that opens the secret door that holds my feeling. Feelings disregarded or not as important as others. After years and years I began to believe that the needs of mine outweigh not even a simple thank you. Feelings that begin to pile up and stain the fabric of my very being. To cope I had to find some kind of place where I can go to leave the troubles behind until I'm strong enough to deal with them. I spent so much time outside of my body I began to wonder who was that boy that needs a friend, who was that boy that was alone in the crowd, the boy who searched all his life but didn't know what he was looking for. I felt for him so I went to the closet to bury the feelings that shook him to the core. The boy is now a man and the man is me, no longer putting away my feelings but dealing with them, no longer hurting from them but smiling at them, no longer alone in a crowd but alive and proud. But in the back of my mind I knew. The feelings a boy locked away that to this day shakes him to the core .Feelings that turn into demons that die from starvation that become the skeletons beneath the chest under the shelf that hangs the clothes that hides who I was. And as I dig for the skeletons its the first time I do it to dig them up instead of burying more. As I pull the skeletons clutching the box I pry the box from their hands and put it on a pedestal for the world to know that I went far to get to where I am but the thing they'll never know is that its not there for attention or admiration because I'm not a hero its to remind myself that that boy finally grew up and now carries a smile instead of demons

Now I know I've said this already, when you first showed me this poem, I want everyone to know it. I didn't know you were a poet or a spitter, and certainly didn't know what to expect when you first told me but after you sent me this poem, and growing up together I knew a good idea, reading it made me cry and it filled me with so emotion. And I'm so glad you did me this favor and shared it here on Power Poetry, because I know others will like it too!

Becca.
