Let me get started, By the time You have reached this letter You may have realized that The car, My belongings, And my heart Have long departed don’t try to chase after me I can guarantee I am far from the grip of your fists You came into my life not because I needed You But because You asked. You spoke words that flowed like sweet sun-kissed honey Into my ears. And then You spat in my face. You started off small, A little nudge to the wall And a sharp piercing to my heart. Ah, but you were smart. You healed me with more words and beautiful flowers. Little did I know of your powers. I pleaded for progression And the more I forgave You The more I received regression. Regretting the day that my eyes met yours Not because I was hurt or felt beneath dirt, But because it brought pleasure to You. A sweet memory like an infants first laugh Is how You would recall our relationship. But for me the laugh would be a constant reminder Of the cackle that echoed back. And for that reason I let You go. Not because You didn't love me, But because You loved yourself so much more, And I can not come in between that sort of selfish love. I honestly don’t know what was better… Smelling the fresh booze lingering from your breath, swallowing the blood gushing from my head After an eventful night down the stairs, Hearing the lies spew from your teeth, Feeling my ribs bend and snap, Or perhaps my all time favorite… Seeing my life flash before my eyes Time and time again. No, I will use my love to love others As I once did deeply toward You. My heart longs for the day that your heart Longs to be better. But I know that day will never come And this is a bittersweet farewell. I can truly promise, This is not a see You later. This is the end of us. A new beginning for me.
