Cloudy Phenomena

Just moments ago, the strangest of occurrences

Shutting the shades, to block the setting sun

The last rays of light bounced from the clouds

As they sped past with violet, orange, pink fury

Stepping out, a leg to barricade my wrinkly dog indoors

The unnatural motion of the atmosphere forced my gaze to fix

Trees, houses, backyard blooms of dahlias and lilies: all were still

Yet the clouds spun and danced

Flying past in rapid contrast to the usual Washington coastal cover

Looking further, the wisps of cirrus airy pillows enlightened me

The sky was not truly blue

Instead a foggy layer appearing as a poisonous miasma as depicted in an old anime from my high school days

Thicker clouds continued to dance, disappearing as quickly a they came to view

Everything remained still in comparison

If this was twilight every night

I would wish to take time to see it always
