Codependent No More

What's this codependency you speak of? What's it got to do with me? I powered through his laundry for the warmth of his arms, "the kind you can't get from a sweater", cooked him healthy meals for rare dates to the diner. I had a dream before this, you say? What good will it do? He pines for the lady who'd settle for less, power through a job no matter how stressed. He covets the lady who'd sacrifice dreams, make room for his, take one for the team. Have I given any thought to my happiness? Are you telling me I look sad? That's not- well, this much is true.. I create light banter to hide my fears, hide in my bedroom to shed some bitter tears, reach for my hairbrush to detangle my mental binds, ask about his day so I don't have to think about mine. Does he misspell happy with an 'I'? Am I a door mat? I unfurl his tangled sweater hoping to unfurl his chains, I cut into his green bellpeppers to hopefully make the cut. The cut for what, you ask? My dreams, that's what. To wield cold dental instruments that make sweaters seem warmer than his arms, to bring home take out fit for a king- I mean, a queen. To cure a mean case of gingivitis and feel like a hero of the patient's and of my own, wake up thrilled for the challenge of school because I'd be fighting my own fight in a team of one. What's this codependency you speak of? What's it got to do with me?
