Coffee For Three
I remember when your breathing got too heavy,
and I put my lips on yours hoping this would steady your mouth and go all the way down to your lungs.
Or that time you were shaking uncontrollably,
so I laid my head on your chest wanting to be the anchor of your heart in the best way possible.
But I also remember the time I told you I was getting coffee for three.
I said,
"You’re the person I look for in a crowd.
You’re the one I want to talk to at the end of the day.
But the problem is,
you are not the only one."
It was then that I knew my two hands could no longer hold three cups of coffee in the morning for
you, me, and the other.
