A Cold 14th Friday

As I step out the door,

I sneak a peek by the twisted street

Feet thundering, voice resonating

I held my ears to block ‘em all

It was loud, it was terrifying, it was

At the point that I was scared to go.

I held my breath, muster my courage

Trudge the way with heavy steps

Then stared up at the dark sky

Seeing that same twinkling north star

Then reminiscing what happened

On that cold friday night.

Can we just go back?

Why can’t we let it go?

I want to stay but I can’t

It’s all not the same anymore

I trick my heart to numb the pain

To stop that hot blood course through my veins

Then reckon, ‘curse day be damned’.

Still walking aimlessly by the road

Silently screaming, my voice lost

Then pondering silently that maybe,  I can move on

 In this cold 14th friday

I swear that I’ll let it all go away

And, when the sun rises

I’ll be back to being lonely on the cold 14th day.
