Cold

The wind knocks on my window, the rain pounds on my roof. The sun fights to shine through the clouds, but fails. The lightning is the only light that shines for miles. In between the bright light and deafening crackle is pitch darkness and the sound of silence. I try to light a candle, but the wind blowing through the holes in the walls blow out the flame. I shiver and pull the ill-fitting shirt I wear closer to me. My sister stores in her sleep. She lays on a hole-ridden blanket , with the only good blanket tucked just right so that nearly no cold touches her.
