On A Cold And Windy Start

On A Cold And Windy Start.....

on a cold and windy start,

to rather this special day,

I had fallen in

along with the rest of a motley crew,

lined up to be a marching soon,

under the banner

that effectively reads,

"the Sunshine Coast Vietnam Veterans mob,"

but how did that relate to me,

for only once a year

get to wear the medallions of war,

ya see,

here today our bash is small,

when you compare it so?

to the big ones

that march past city hall,

what is the significance

of when we meet,

get to greet

then march down the street,

with some of your mates,

but then again

there’s now not all of them,

some are now a celebrating

a 365 and a wakey so,

now as each,

try,

to keep in step,

and a wave to the crowd,

‘tis often now

a time of reflection,

of thoughts back in the past

of what we did back then,

along some jungle track,

or waiting for the mail,

but here today for most

the battle resides

and lives inside of you,

so for me

I get to be,

a marching on this our day….
