Collect Your Scars

Dear Friend,

It kills me to see tears

Stream down your face

In endless black rivers,

Splashing on your sheets.

My heart breaks to see you in pain,

To see sadness plastered to your eyes

Like a mask you can’t take off.

Sometimes you forget your pain,

Kick the demons down deep,

And smile your glorious smile,

Turning your chin up to the sky

Thanking life for a moment of serenity.

Then it fades.

You come crashing down

Further than before

The demons stronger and more vile.

I see your pieces scatter.

I scramble to pick them up

While you lay there trembling

Wishing you weren’t so fragile.

My friend, you beautiful human,

Life fluctuates and nothing is ever constant.

Life is beautiful and terrifying and torturous.

Happiness is fleeting, sadness threatens, anger burns.

Live in the moment,

Let down your guard,

Embrace vulnerability,

Break and mend,

Collect your scars,

There is so much beauty in who you are.

Love,

Megs
