A society is surrounded by rules, certain beliefs, and customs in which a person is discouraged and even thrown out of society if they don’t follow the norms or be conscious of them in their daily lives. With that, the community obtains the notion of what is justifiable and what is not, however; if you do not understand it in the same way, you will basically be forced to alter your actions and learn to have a similar lifestyle with the natives. By definition, persistent means “continuing without changing function or structure”, which means an individual who is not favorable in conforming to societal policies and morals belongs to a persistent subculture.

While living in Mexico, many families acknowledged the fact that keeping their children there was a burden to their future. Therefore, they have decided have to send their children to the America for educational purposes and better opportunities. Because of such an important world wide problem, I have taken interest in it and decided to conduct my ethnography on an immigrant who dwells in Culver City by the name of Ana Santos. Based off of the transcript and the information I gathered, I was able to determine that Ana belongs to a persistent subculture here in America. Ana resists American culture and in doing so maintains her traditions while staying closely connected to a Latino community.
