Color

The world is in monochrome, Blacks and greys and whites. The colors repel each other, Like pigeons taking flight from ravens, Like dogs fleeing from hounds of a different pelt, Like a community lost in the throes of injustice. Yet, the rainbow is coming. The rainbow comes on the lips of the peacemakers. Kind, mustached King lips paint greens and blues, Proclaiming sapphire dreams and viridian peace. Gentle elderly Parks lips paint contrasting yellows, Asserting golden revolution with the one word “No.” Strong, silent follower lips paint oranges of passive conflict, Declaring tangerine resistance to injustice. The rainbow comes on the bodies of the fighters. Skin bleeds red with the blood of struggles, Scarlet scars that drip with the terrors of discrimination. Arms burn purple with the bruises of revolution, An indigo reminder of the forces to fight. Hearts shine blue with the loss of those loved, Turquoise tears glisten as tribute to ghosts of wrongful death. The rainbow comes on the backs of leaders. Men and women who color with red of passion, A vibrant cardinal to infect the hearts of others for tolerance. Men and women who color with orange of rebellion, A zealous apricot to turn souls to the cause of equality. Men and women who color with green of generosity, Deep emerald to sacrifice all they possess to their cause. Oh, the rainbow comes. The colors unite, Creating a stripe across the sky of humanity, That is lovely, Pure, Hopeful, Just. A stripe of diversity, passion, and love. A stripe of harmony, peace, and prosperity. A stripe dictating how the world should be- Unified. One.
