All I know is that I can't remember when it began
I don't remember what drew me in
But I can't forget what made me stay
For the physical pain and the mental strain
Was more than I could bear
But the whoosh of the silks and the baps of the rifles
In my hands were powerful
The uniformity that made audiences delight
The pleasure in a job well done
The feeling when you walk off the field and know
You made yourself proud
The people I met now are more family than friends
The encouragement I received and the life lessons I learned
About perseverance
Hard work
Dedication
Love
Team work
These things all over-powered the suffering
And when I'm holding a flag or rifle in my hand
I know this is exactly where I'm supposed to be
Because this is what I love and this is what makes me feel good about myself
My love for color guard
