The Color of My Skin

The color of my skin makes me confident.

The color of my skin makes me unique.

The color of my skin reminds me of the battles

 my ancestors had to defeat:

Lynching, slavery, and the things that you would

 think are only imaginary.

But no, I’m not ashamed of the color of my skin.

Because the color of my skin speaks for itself:

Beauty, royalty, strength, and integrity.

The color of my skin makes me confident.

The color of my skin makes me unique.

Cocoa brown is the color of my skin.

The color of my skin makes me, me.
