Colorado in Spring
I stand stationary
A storm approaching
The world around me moves
Trapped in a vegetative valley
Voluntarily imprisoned by resting mountains and endless sky
Sky
Stretching further than eyes can see
Nature
Encapsulating more beauty than minds can process
Mountains meet atmosphere in a chilling embrace
They escape harsh winds with thick blankets of untouched snow
Deep emerald evergreens proudly tower in the valley where I stand
Less confident, browning shrubs dot the middle of the mountain range
Plants that chose to plant their seeds at the top weren’t so lucky
No life prevails on the unforgiving peaks.
A powerful stream rushes through the valley
Small yet resilient yellow wildflowers hug the edge of the rushing water
Cherishing its gift of hydration
The clear rapids carry fish
Unwilling hitchhikers
Down the valley without consideration of their desired destination The dark gray sky twists furiously above
Clouds move with rage as they strike the mountains with blinding white electricity
As I turn around, the other side of the valley yields clear skies
Light blue stretches for miles
The sun breaks through a cloud
And shines rays which illuminate the sparkling stream
Turing back once more to the side of the storm
The mountains remain unmoved
Unbothered
The cruel gray skies direct their attacks on the centered mountain
The rushing creek and crack of thunder compete for my attention
But all my focus is on the tallest mountain
Strong
Solitary
Serene amongst the chaos
You are my mountain
You are my escape from life's storms
Amidst the chaos your love remains untainted
Admidst the harshness of this world your love remains stable
All this to say
I love uou
