Colored Ambitious Woman

Staring directly at the mirror, I lose myself in my thoughts.

Thinking about my present and my future.

Surrounded by street violence, wondering who's the shooter.

I REFUSE to continue living this way,

I REFUSE to acknowledge negativity and be influenced by the word's of what my peers say.

I am a colored young woman,

I am ambitious.

There is so much to life than drugs and being malicious.

Education is my freedom, to escape all my demons.

My motivation is what encourages me to be my best,

I will not fall into the crowd and be like the rest!

I can only depend on myself,

this journey will lead me to success.

One thing I must confess is that my background will always be a part of me.

Though, I will not let it determine who I will be in the future.

I am motivated and ready to take on more opportunities.

I will show my community success is possible!

You can be phenomenal.

I am a colored young woman,

I am ambitious.
