A Colorful Life
A plain old Sharpie seems ordinary
When it writes thick colors and lines
When compared to life it’s extraordinary
Though people may say otherwise
I know you’re thinking that I’m wrong
How could I be right?
But you will see when you read along
That a Sharpie is just like your life
All the colors red, yellow and blue
Show feelings you have inside
Blue is the sadness you already knew
And yellow a symbol of pride
Your life’s like a Sharpie you can’t erase
You can’t take back words that you said
It’s permanent like the feeling that stays
And if you rub it, indeed it will spread
You may think white out could be your solution
But the words remain under the paint
So please be aware of your verbal pollution
but I'm not saying to act like a saint
Sharpies are used for good and for bad
The writer must make the choice
Some choose graffiti, which I think is sad
While others can give words a voice
But every-day Sharpies that put on their caps
And hide who they really are
Sometimes they end up with different hats
And pretend to be something they aren’t
So pick up your Sharpie and use your brain
Put thought in the stories you write
Don’t make bad remarks that may leave a stain
On the people you know in your life
Because the time comes when the Sharpie will fade
But the words that it wrote will survive
No more beautiful lines in the color parade
Because the Sharpie is empty of dye.
